TRUFFLE

A former drug dealer breaks into the high end food industry working the lucrative, insular, and competitive career of a black market truffle dealer, in hopes of living a legitimate life and regaining custody of his daughter.

TRUFFLE, the show, is a drama series/procedural hybrid set in the high-end food and restaurant industry. Like the best cable dramas, TRUFFLE has layers that make it more than just the basic show. It will explore deeper themes that go beyond good guy versus bad guy as we follow our charming protagonist on his uphill battle to overcome his past just to simply become an ordinary citizen of New York. Through JAY, we explore a world not yet seen on television, but also explore the contrast between high and low culture, pitting the rough-and-tumble dealings of the truffle business against the high-class nature of its chief consumer and making hay of the clash in values. The not-so-implicit comparisons to drug dealing further this point and also make for a fun subversion of the expected, as we watch someone from the drug world exercise his skills and begin to make his way forward in the truffle business. The short shelf life of white truffle (about 7 days) puts a clock on everything Jay does and also sums up the nature of the business: you go through hell to sell your wares, you finally succeed, and then you’re back to step one all over again with the next shipment.
